Mayco Stoneware SW-401 Light Flux – clear flux glaze for colour gradients

Mayco Stoneware SW-401 Light Flux is a clear flux glaze with a slight gloss. You can use it as an effect or additive glaze for colour gradients and flowing movement on stoneware, porcelain and clay.

If you combine Light Flux with other Mayco Stoneware glazes, it activates and intensifies the neighbouring glazes. This gives soft transitions, natural drip effects and more depth in the surface. You can also apply Light Flux on its own. According to Mayco, the glaze is dinnerware safe.

Working with Light Flux

Apply Light Flux with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics, as you would other glazes. The glaze should not be sprayed. Stir it well before application so that nothing stays settled at the bottom. It is fired in the range of 1180–1280 °C. How far the colours run into each other depends on the thickness of application, overlap and firing temperature.

Controlling flow and planning effects

Flux glazes move during firing. Leave a margin free at the foot of the piece and protect the kiln shelf so that nothing sticks. A test piece on your own clay shows you beforehand how far the glaze runs and how the colours blend. This is especially worthwhile for combinations you are firing for the first time, and for studio or class work with several glazes.
