Botz 9131 Weiß mica glaze – matt, opaque and sparkling

Botz liquid glaze 9131 Weiß Glimmer is a ready-to-use mica glaze for ceramics: white, matt and opaque, with mica particles that sparkle after firing. You apply it with a brush and fire it within the range of 900–1060 °C.

The firing temperature determines the result: the best sparkle effect is achieved at 900 °C. Most glazes only reach their strongest colour at around 1040 °C. So if sparkle is what you want most, fire at the lower end of the range. If you want the colour fully developed, choose a higher temperature.

Applying the glaze

Stir the glaze well before use so that the mica particles are evenly distributed. Wiping with a cloth exposes the mica at the surface so that it sparkles after firing.

• Apply 2–3 coats with a brush, letting each coat dry thoroughly
• Once dry, wipe the surface with a slightly damp cloth to expose the mica
• Light objects can also be glazed on the base and fired without stilts

Mixing and overglazing

Mica glazes can be mixed with one another. Coloured engobes such as 9046, 9061 or 9051 give delicate pastel shades. For particularly bright, glossy colours, glaze over the top with Botz 9106. Test mixtures and overglazes on a test tile beforehand so that you know the result of the firing.
