Dixon Hi-Heat China Marker in brown – grease pencil for marking ceramics, glass and tiles
The Dixon Phano Hi-Heat China Marker (also called Hi Temp Marker) in brown is a grease pencil for marking ceramics, bisque ware, glazed tiles, bricks, crucibles, glass and metal. You can use it to write on and mark smooth surfaces, for example blanks or tiles before firing.
It is a paper-wrapped grease pencil with a peel-off string, not a felt-tip pen. The core is a very soft, greasy lead. To expose it, you pull the paper away; no sharpener is needed. The pencil is 175 mm long. The high-temperature version is available in brown only.
Marking
Pull a strip of paper away with the peel-off string and draw directly on the smooth surface with the soft lead. The greasy lead adheres to glass, glazed ceramics, bisque ware, bricks and crucibles. Peel the paper back only as far as you need: the rest of the lead stays protected and the pencil sits comfortably in your hand.
Wiping off and firing
On smooth, non-porous surfaces the mark can be wiped off as long as it has not been fired. This helps if you have made a mistake. You can use the pencil instead of an underglaze pencil on ceramics and bisque ware. How the mark looks after your firing depends on the clay, the glaze and the firing schedule. Make a test piece first.
