Botz Liquid Glaze 9489 Schwarz matt – opaque matt glaze for earthenware

Botz liquid glaze 9489 Schwarz matt is an opaque, plain-coloured glaze for earthenware, applied with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics. It gives a smooth, even, matt black surface.

The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C and can also be fired up to 1100 °C. This suits the usual earthenware firing cycles and leaves you some leeway when running the kiln.

Application

The glaze is intended for ceramics that have already been bisque-fired. The bisque firing should be at 950 °C or higher.

• Stir the glaze well before use.
• Thin with a little water if needed.
• Apply evenly to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush.
• Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed. Each coat should be dry before the next one is applied.

Firing and mixing with other matt glazes

The glaze is stable in the firing range of 1020 to 1060 °C. If your kiln programme runs higher, you can also fire it up to 1100 °C. Schwarz matt can be mixed with other opaque matt glazes from Botz, namely 9107, 9108, 9487–9494 and 9612. This lets you lighten dark shades, for example towards grey. A test tile with your mixing ratio will show you beforehand how the result looks on your clay.
