Botz PRO 9307 Perlrosa – pink liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware
Botz PRO 9307 Perlrosa is a ready-to-use brush-on liquid glaze in a soft pink for earthenware and stoneware. The surface is glossy and semi-transparent. The firing range runs from 1020 to 1280 °C. You can therefore fire the glaze in the earthenware range just as well as at high temperature, and you do not need a separate glaze for every clay.
The tin contains 200 ml. According to Botz, the glaze is exempt from hazard labelling. It combines well with Botz Unidekor.
Application and firing by temperature
The effect of Perlrosa depends on how hot you fire. Botz gives 1050 °C for earthenware and 1250 °C for stoneware as the recommended firing temperature, each with a 10–20 minute hold. Let the glaze dry for a day before firing.
- From 1020 °C (earthenware): strong, almost opaque colour, apply 2–3 coats
- Around 1150 °C (e.g. early-vitrifying clays): the colour is retained, the surface becomes more semi-transparent, apply 2 coats
- Around 1250 °C (stoneware, also porcelain): glassy, semi-transparent surface in pastel shades; Perlrosa fires to a more transparent finish here
Tableware and firing range
For tableware, Botz recommends the PRO glazes from approx. 1200 °C. In the earthenware range (1020–1100 °C), many clays are not yet watertight. In that case the ceramic should not be used for liquids for long periods and should not be left outside in frost.
Avoiding runs
If applied thickly, the glaze tends to run. Apply several thin coats rather than one thick one, and leave the foot of the piece unglazed so that nothing drips onto the kiln shelf.
