Mayco Stoneware SW-195 Riptide – stoneware glaze in blue, turquoise and grey-blue

Mayco Stoneware SW-195 Riptide is a stoneware glaze in deep blue with turquoise and grey-blue shades. It gives a lively, slightly shimmering surface reminiscent of moving water. The finish is glossy and lightly textured, and smoky effects emphasise shapes, edges and textures.

The glaze suits stoneware, porcelain and clay, and works well for maritime and organic designs. The colour gradients depend on layer thickness and firing temperature. Important: according to Mayco, Riptide is not suitable for dinnerware or for contact with food (Not Dinnerware Safe). Use it for decorative items such as vases, decorative bowls or objects.

Applying Riptide

Stir the glaze well before use so that the colour pigments and settled particles are mixed back in. Then apply 2–3 even coats with a brush, letting each coat dry before applying the next. Do not spray the glaze. Fire within the stated firing range of 1180–1280 °C. The colour gradients vary depending on layer thickness and firing temperature. A test piece on your own clay will show you beforehand how Riptide looks for you.
