Rayher Styropor Disc Ø 25 cm, 7 cm High – Polystyrene Base for Painting, Covering and Cutting

The Styropor disc from Rayher (art. no. 3000600) is a round, white polystyrene (EPS) disc measuring 25 cm in diameter and 7 cm in height. You can use it as a lightweight base for craft projects, model making and decorations. It is also used as a base for building up wedding cakes.

The surface is smooth and the structure even. This means you can paint the disc, cover it, coat it or cut it to shape with a sharp knife. At 7 cm high, it is sturdy enough to support decorations or to be cut into shapes, while remaining light.

Working with the disc

A long, sharp knife or a polystyrene cutter is best for cutting. Saw with the knife in smooth, even strokes rather than pressing down, and the edge will not break away. Water-based paints and adhesives, such as acrylic paint or decoupage glue, are a safe choice. Paints, spray varnishes and adhesives containing solvents can dissolve polystyrene. Test them first on a hidden area or an offcut.

Choosing the size

According to Rayher, the range is available in Ø 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 cm, each with a height of 4 cm or 7 cm. Choose the 7 cm high disc in Ø 25 cm if you want to cut thick shapes or need a sturdy, taller base. For flat bases, the 4 cm high version is sufficient.
