The Proxxon polishing set (art. no. 28285) is a mini drill accessory for polishing metal, glass, precious metal, porcelain and plastic. It contains three felt and three silicone polishing points in different shapes, a cotton polishing wheel, a suede mop, polishing paste and a tool holder. The shanks are 2.35 mm in diameter, so the parts fit collets of that size.

The different shapes help you reach the right spot even on small workpieces: cylinder shapes work on flat surfaces and inner walls, cone shapes get into corners and recesses, and wheel and disc shapes suit edges and narrow grooves.

Polishing step by step

First clamp the tool holder or a polishing point in the mini drill; the 2.35 mm shank size must match the collet. Secure the workpiece firmly and wear safety glasses.

• Start at a low speed with light pressure. With plastic in particular, too much frictional heat can melt the surface.
• Apply the polishing paste sparingly to the rotating polishing tool. Too much paste flies off and smears the workpiece.
• Move the tool evenly over the surface and do not stay in one spot.
• Do not reuse a polishing tool that you have used with paste on a different material, so that no residues are transferred.

Which polishing tool for what?

The felt and silicone polishing points are intended for small areas and details, while the cotton wheel and suede mop cover larger, flat areas. If you work on a piece in stages, change the polishing tools one after another and clean the piece in between, so that no particles are carried over from one step to the next.
