Rico Design Maritim chenille stems – 10 pipe cleaners for bending and crafting

The Maritim chenille stems from Rico Design come as a set of 10 bendy wires with a fluffy covering, also known as pipe cleaners. The colours have a nautical feel in blue, red and white, and the stems are striped. You can use them to make small animals, figures, jewellery or Christmas tree decorations.

Each stem is 50 cm long and approx. 9 mm thick. Together you have 5 m of material, which you can divide up for several small figures. The wire can be bent by hand without any tools and shaped into arms, legs, antennae or rings.

Working with chenille stems

Bend the wire directly with your fingers. For figures, wind a piece around a pencil to make spirals for antennae or curly tails. To join two stems, twist the ends around each other. To shorten them, use side cutters or an old pair of scissors, as the wire core quickly blunts paper scissors. Fold the cut ends inwards so that the wire does not prick.
