Birch wood base – a starting point for macramé lantern holders, baskets and plant hangers
The macramé wooden base is a round birch wood board on which you build macramé projects such as lantern holders, plant hangers, baskets or lampshades. The Ø 7 mm holes are already drilled, so you can start knotting straight away without drilling anything yourself.
The surface is smooth and the grain of the birch wood stays visible. You can use the wooden base untreated, or paint, oil or glaze it. Choose the diameter from the options.
Working with the wooden base
The pre-drilled holes set the rhythm of your knot pattern, so the spacing comes out even. Thread the cords through the holes and secure them on the underside with a knot. Then keep knotting upwards or downwards from the board, depending on whether you are making a lantern holder, a basket or a plant hanger. Before you start, check with a piece of your yarn that it passes easily through a 7 mm hole. If you want to treat the wood, do so before knotting, so that no paint or oil gets on the yarn.
