Edpas maple carving wood – hard wood for fine detail
Edpas carving wood is made of solid maple and is suitable for carving figures and details. The set contains 2 blocks, each 7 × 7 × 20 cm, plus carving templates. With a cross-section of 7 × 7 cm and a length of 20 cm, you have enough wood for figures up to about 20 cm tall.
According to Edpas, maple is harder than lime (linden) or stone pine. This hardness allows very fine details to be worked out, and the edges stay clean as you carve. The wood is therefore also of interest to experienced carvers. As a natural product, it may differ slightly from the picture in colour and grain.
Working with maple
Maple is denser than softwoods such as lime. You need a sharp knife, and it is better to take off thin shavings than to force deep cuts. Cut with the grain so that the wood does not tear out. First transfer the template to the block with a pencil, then saw or carve out the rough shape before moving on to the details.
Which size to choose?
The 7 × 7 × 20 cm blocks are intended for larger figures and sturdy shapes. For small pieces and fine details, the range also includes maple carving wood measuring 2.5 × 2.5 × 10 cm in a set of 10.
