da Vinci COLINEO Series 5022 Wide Flat Brush for Oil & Acrylic

da Vinci COLINEO Series 5022 – wide synthetic brush for large areas

The COLINEO wide brush from da Vinci's series 5022 is a flat brush (varnish brush) for oil and acrylic paints. You can use it to apply primers, glazes and broad strokes evenly over larger areas.

The bristles are a blend of straight and wavy synthetic fibres of different lengths. They are springy, hold paint well and have extra fine tips for a precise point. The fibre resembles Kolinsky sable hair. As it is synthetic, the brush is a vegan alternative to natural hair. Choose the size from the options.

Working with the wide brush

For primers and underpainting, load the brush with plenty of paint and draw it over the painting surface in even, overlapping strokes. For glazes, thin the paint with a suitable painting medium and apply it thinly, without going over the area several times, so the layer does not turn streaky. Acrylic paint dries quickly: rinse the brush out with water straight after painting so that no paint dries in the bristles. Remove oil paint with brush cleaner, then wash with mild soap.

When to use this brush

The wide shape is designed for working over large areas, such as backgrounds, skies or large blocks of colour. For fine details and outlines, a narrower brush is a better choice. Choose the size according to the area you want to cover in one stroke.
