da Vinci FIT SYNTHETICS series 5073 – wide flat brush for acrylic and gouache

The FIT SYNTHETICS flat brush, series 5073, by da Vinci is a wide flat brush with soft grey synthetic fibres for acrylic and gouache painting. You can use it to apply paint evenly over larger areas, for example for backgrounds, priming or flat blocks of colour. The fibres hold plenty of paint, so you need to reload less often.

The fibres are set in a rustproof stainless steel ferrule. The short wooden handle is matt green with a grippy surface. The short handle lets you work close to the painting surface, for example at a table or when painting in class.

Working with the flat brush

Load the brush with paint and wipe off excess paint on the edge of the pot or palette. Use the flat side to cover areas in even, overlapping strokes. Use the narrow edge to draw straight lines and create crisp edges. With acrylic, work quickly, as the paint dries fast. Wash the brush out straight after painting with water and a little soap. Dried paint on the ferrule makes the fibres splay apart.

What it is suited to

A flat brush of this width is intended for large areas, not for fine detail. For outlines, small motifs or fine detail, add a narrower round or flat brush. Choose the brush width from the options.
