The da Vinci watercolour brush set Frau Hölle (series 4190, called "Loose Watercolor Florals" by da Vinci) contains three round brushes for loose floral subjects in watercolour: one squirrel hair brush with French mount and two extra-pointed synthetic brushes. It was developed together with the watercolour artist Frau Hölle and is made in Germany.

The synthetic brushes are designed so that the tip springs back into shape by itself after painting. The squirrel hair brush no. 1 is made of blue squirrel hair and, according to the manufacturer, is suitable for flowers and leaves and, thanks to its fine tip, for smaller details as well. That gives you three brushes in one pack for petals, stems and fine details, so you do not have to hunt for individual brushes.

Painting loose flowers with the set

Lightly wet the paper where you want to paint and place the petals with the squirrel hair brush: touch down, build up pressure, then pull out towards the tip. This creates soft petals and flowers with natural colour gradients. Paint stems, stamens and outlines with synthetic brush no. 2, whose extra-pointed shape allows fine lines. No. 8 holds more water and paint and suits larger flowers, leaves and first washes of colour. After painting, rinse the brushes thoroughly in clean water and leave them to dry lying flat.
