da Vinci Series 7179 flat bristle brush for oil and acrylic paint

da Vinci Series 7179 – flat bristle brush for oil and acrylic paint

The da Vinci Series 7179 oil bristle brush is a flat brush for oil and acrylic paints. You can use it for covering large areas, priming and decorative work, in the hobby studio as well as in school lessons. The glued Chinese white bristles are stiff and hold their shape, so you can also apply thick, heavy-bodied paint with confidence.

The long, raw wooden handle sits in the hand in the classic way and lets you keep a little distance from the work surface while painting. The bristles are set in a ferrule. Choose the size from the options; the brush number determines how wide your brushstroke will be.

Working with the flat brush

Use the broad, flat side to cover surfaces and grounds, and the narrow edge for lines and crisp edges. Stiff bristles give very little as you paint and work well for strong, opaque application. Do not load too much paint: wipe the brush off on the rim of the container so that the paint does not run into the ferrule. For fine details and soft transitions, you are better off using a brush with softer hair.

Cleaning and care

Wash acrylic paint out straight away with water and a little soap, before it dries. Wipe oil paint off with a cloth first, then clean the brush with brush cleaner and soap. Leave the brush to dry lying flat or hanging, and do not leave it standing in water with the bristles down, otherwise the wooden handle will swell and the bristles will bend.
