Canson XL Mix Media spiral pad – sturdy paper for watercolour, gouache and acrylic

The Canson XL Mix Media spiral pad is a painting pad with 300 gsm paper for watercolour, gouache and acrylic paints. The paper is natural white with a medium grain, acid-free and age-resistant. The XL range is designed for art students and schoolchildren.

The spiral binding is at the top, so the pad lies flat while you paint and you can turn the sheets over one by one. The sheets are micro-perforated: you can tear a finished piece out neatly along the perforation without damaging the pad. Choose your size from the options.

What the pad is suited to

At 300 gsm, the paper takes water-based paints without soaking through straight away. The medium grain gives watercolour and gouache a light texture, and with acrylic the surface holds the paint well. As several techniques can be combined on one paper, the pad is suitable for studies, sketches and mixed-media experiments.

Working with the pad

Even sturdy paper can cockle slightly if the paint is applied very wet. It is therefore best to apply the paint in several thin layers and let each layer dry. A sheet taped down at the edges with masking tape on a firm surface stays flatter while you paint. Only tear the sheet out once the paint has dried completely.
