Rayher Chalky Finish – ultra-matt chalk paint for furniture, decor and walls

Rayher Chalky Finish is an ultra-matt, water-based chalk paint for painting furniture, decorations and walls in a country style. The finish is velvety matt. According to Rayher, the paint adheres to wood, metal, ceramic, papier-mâché, plastic, home textiles and walls. This means you can transform old and new items with little effort. The paint is lightfast, has good coverage and high colour intensity. The coloured resin system ensures long durability, and the VOC content is very low. Choose your colour from the options.

The 118 ml tin suits smaller projects such as picture frames, tins, vases, papier-mâché figures or individual pieces of furniture. If you want to paint larger areas, plan on several tins accordingly.

Applying Chalky Finish

The surface should be clean, dry and free of grease. Stir the paint thoroughly or shake the tin before use, as components settle after standing for a while. This is normal. Apply the paint in thin, even coats with a brush or sponge and let each coat dry before applying the next. Thin coats do not run and dry more evenly than one thick application. As the paint is water-based, wash your brushes out with water after use. On smooth surfaces such as plastic or metal, it is best to test adhesion first on an inconspicuous spot.

Sealing: indoors and outdoors

Indoors, seal the surface with cream wax. Outdoors, use Chalky Finish only after permanent sealing with clear varnish, as the paint itself is not intended for this. According to Rayher, cream wax and clear varnish do not change the chalky look. The surface stays matt and velvety.

Creating a distressed look

For a vintage effect, apply two coats in different colours, one over the other. Once dry, lightly sand edges and raised areas so that the colour underneath shows through. Sand carefully and in small steps until you are happy with the result.
