The slim handbag handles from Go Handmade are a pair of faux leather bag handles in brown, 80 cm long, for sewing onto handmade bags and pouches. You get two handles, one for the front and one for the back of your bag.

Before cutting, lay a tape measure out at 80 cm, and you will see how the bag will hang and whether you are planning the height of the bag body correctly. The handles are also available in dark brown within the series, in case you are looking for a darker shade to go with your fabric.

Sewing on the handles

Faux leather does not forgive needle holes: pin holes stay visible. Secure the handle ends with clips instead. The join holds better if you reinforce the bag fabric at the attachment point with interfacing.

• Mark the position on both sides of the bag, keeping the same distance from the side seams
• Secure the handle ends with clips
• Sew by hand with strong thread, or by machine with a leather or Microtex needle and a slightly longer stitch length
• For extra hold, sew a rectangle with a cross and fasten off the threads well
