The cotton content sets it apart from classic sock yarn made of virgin wool and polyamide. The tops need considerably more; the yarn requirements, needle size and sizes are given in each pattern. What matters is the tension given in the pattern. The figure on the ball band for Footprints, 30 stitches and 41 rows over 10 × 10 cm, is only a guide.
