Clover Quilting Needles No. 9 – short needles with gold-plated eye for fine quilting stitches

The Clover Quilting Needle No. 9 (art. no. 496/09) is a short hand sewing needle with a gold-plated eye for quilting. Each pack contains 15 steel needles, each 27 mm long with a diameter of 0.53 mm. Clover describes this series as "halblang zum Quilten", known in English as Quilting Between.

According to Clover, the gold-plated eye makes threading easier and lets the thread run through more gently. When hand quilting, the short needle gives you good control if you take several small stitches onto the needle in a row.

Which size suits you?

The 496 series is available in sizes 9, 10 and 12. At 27 mm, No. 9 is the longest of the three. No. 10 is finer, at 25.4 mm long and 0.46 mm in diameter, and No. 12 measures 24.4 mm with a diameter of 0.53 mm. Which length feels best for quilting depends on your stitching technique and the thickness of your quilt sandwich. A small pack is an easy way to try it out.
