Clover Quilting Needles No. 10 – Short Between Needles for Fine Hand Quilting Stitches

The Clover quilting needle No. 10 is a short needle (between) for hand quilting, which you can use to make fine, even quilting stitches. The pack contains 15 needles, each 25.4 mm long and 0.46 mm thick, with a gold-plated eye.

The short length gives you control when you stitch through the top fabric, wadding and backing. In the Clover 496 series, according to the manufacturer, the gold coating on the eye makes threading easier and is gentler on the thread as it passes through.

Quilting with a between needle

Thread the needle with a fairly short length of quilting thread and make small stitches through all the layers. With a short needle you can often pick up several stitches on the needle one after another before you pull the thread through. This works particularly evenly with a thimble on the leading finger.

Which size to choose

The 496 series is available in sizes 9, 10 and 12. At 25.4 mm, No. 10 is shorter than No. 9 (27 mm) and slightly longer than No. 12 (24.4 mm). At 0.46 mm it is thinner than both, which measure 0.53 mm. Choose No. 10 if you want a particularly fine needle for small stitches.
