Prym sewing machine needle set – universal, jersey and leather for standard home machines

The Prym sewing machine needle set contains 10 steel needles in sizes 70 to 100: five universal needles, three jersey needles and two leather needles. That way you have the right needle to hand for woven fabric, knitted fabric and leather. The needles have a flat shank and, according to Prym, fit all standard home sewing machines.

The point shape is designed for its particular use, according to the manufacturer. The sizes in the set cover fine to heavier fabrics.

Which needle for which fabric?

Use the universal needles for woven fabrics such as cotton or linen. The jersey needles (size 80) are intended for knitted fabrics such as T-shirt fabric; their point is designed to protect the stitches. You need the leather needles (size 90) for leather and similarly firm materials.

• Fine fabrics: the smaller sizes around 70
• Medium fabrics: sizes around 80 to 90
• Firm, thick fabrics: size 100

Changing needles and fit

Change the needle when it is blunt or bent, or when the machine skips stitches. Before inserting it, check your machine's manual to see which needle system it requires. The flat shank is inserted with the flat side facing the back; you will also find the exact orientation in your manual.
