Gütermann Denim – jeans thread for strong seams
The Denim jeans thread from Gütermann creativ is made for seams on medium to heavyweight denim and other woven fabrics. Use it for topstitching, classic jeans-style flat-felled seams and decorative stitching – when hemming, topstitching or repairing your jeans.
The polyester thread is tear-resistant, abrasion-resistant and colourfast. It is OEKO-TEX certified and washable up to 95 °C, so it also withstands a boil wash. It is available in 8 colours. Gütermann recommends a jeans needle in size NM 90–110.
Using the thread
According to Gütermann, you use Denim as the top thread and combine it in the bobbin with a standard sew-all thread, or you can use it as the bobbin thread too. For visible topstitching with a jeans look, set a slightly longer stitch length so the strong thread stands out better. Sew a test seam on a scrap of your fabric first and check the thread tension.
Sew slowly over thick areas such as flat-felled seams, belt loops or hem corners, using the handwheel if in doubt. A needle that is too fine is a typical mistake here: it bends, stitches are skipped or the thread breaks.
