The Prym double-pointed needle set (art. no. 222911) contains 7 sets of bamboo needles, each with 5 needles, 20 cm long. You can knit socks, gloves and other small items in the round, and you will find a suitable needle size for most sock yarns.

The needles have a smooth surface and shaped tips, so the stitches glide well. Bamboo has a little more grip than metal, so the stitches do not slip off the needle as easily. All the sets are stored in a green and beige cotton bag.

Working with double-pointed needles

With double-pointed needles, you divide the stitches between four needles and knit with the fifth. This creates a seamless tube, for example for a sock leg or gloves. The needles are 20 cm long, which is a common length for socks. Push the stitches back a little from the needle ends so they do not slip off when you change to the next needle. Do not put needles you are not using loose in the bag; instead, secure them in the knitting or leave them in the stitches.

Which needle size should you choose?

The size is marked in the middle of each needle, so you can recognise it at a glance even with several sets. What matters is the recommendation on the ball band of your yarn and the tension given in your pattern.

• 2.0 to 3.0 mm: for finer, 4-ply sock yarns
• 3.25 to 3.5 mm: for slightly thicker yarns or more loosely knitted socks
• 4.0 and 4.5 mm: for thicker yarns, for example for slipper socks, arm warmers or hats
