Atelier Zitron Trekking Sport – 4-ply sock yarn

Trekking Sport by Atelier Zitron is a 4-ply sock yarn made from 75% virgin wool superwash and 25% polyamide. The polyamide makes socks more hard-wearing, and the superwash finish makes them machine washable. One ball of 100 g with approx. 420 m is roughly enough for one pair of socks up to size 44. The yarn is certified to OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, product class 1 and is made in Germany.

What Trekking Sport is used for

Trekking Sport comes in plain colours (as stated for the series). Plain yarn shows textured stitch patterns such as cables, rib or lace patterns clearly, so it works well if your socks are to have a pattern. With needle size 2–3 mm you knit socks in the usual thickness for everyday shoes. As well as socks, the yarn is also suitable for smaller accessories such as hats or scarves.

Knitting the socks

Knit socks on double-pointed needles or a short circular needle in the size given in your pattern. For socks above size 44, particularly long legs or knee-high socks, allow for a second ball. Buy the quantity from the same dye lot where possible, so that both socks look the same. If you want to knit the heel and toe especially firmly, you can work them half a needle size smaller.

Practical tip: What matters is the tension given in your pattern. The ball band figure of 30 stitches and 42 rows over 10 × 10 cm with 2–3 mm needles is only a guide.
