Lang Yarns Venus – DK cotton and merino yarn for every season

Venus by Lang Yarns is a DK knitting yarn made of 50 % virgin wool (fine merino, mulesing-free, non-felting) and 50 % cotton. The blend combines a summer fibre with a winter fibre: the cotton makes the fabric breathable, while the merino adds softness and warmth. You can knit shawls, stoles, tops or lightweight jumpers to wear in spring, summer and autumn, and in winter with an extra layer. Choose your colour from the options.

A ball weighs 50 g and, according to the manufacturer, has a length of approx. 170 m. Use this to work out how many balls your pattern needs: divide the length in metres given in your pattern by 170.

What Venus is suited to

On 4–4.5 mm needles, Venus knits up loosely to medium-firm. That suits airy summer stoles, shawls and tops as well as jumpers, wrist warmers or hats. Because cotton is less elastic than pure wool, the stitches look even, but the finished pieces drape a little more softly and have less spring. Bear this in mind for ribbing and close-fitting designs.

Tension and care

According to the manufacturer, the tension is 21 stitches and 28 rows over 10 × 10 cm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Buy the quantity for a project from a single dye lot if possible, so that no colour differences show. For washing, Lang Yarns recommends a wool detergent without fabric softener.
