Lang Yarns Donegal Tweed+ – tweed yarn in 100 % virgin wool
Donegal Tweed+ from Lang Yarns is a worsted-weight tweed yarn made from 100 % virgin wool, mulesing-free according to the manufacturer. You can knit jumpers, cardigans, hats or scarves with it in a classic tweed look. The yarn is spun and dyed in the tradition of Ireland's Donegal region.
Each ball weighs 50 g and has a length of approx. 105 m. Using the length, you can work out the yarn requirements of your pattern yourself if it is given in metres rather than grams.
How the yarn changes after washing
Donegal Tweed+ retains some spinning oil and feels slightly rough at first in the knitted fabric. According to the manufacturer, the yarn blooms after knitting and washing, gains volume and becomes soft. Wash your knitting in lukewarm water with wool detergent, without fabric softener, as the manufacturer recommends.
Tension and planning quantities
With 4.5–5 mm needles, the manufacturer gives a tension of 17 stitches and 25 rows over 10 × 10 cm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Because the yarn changes when washed, it is best to wash your tension swatch before measuring it. Divide the number of metres your pattern requires by 105 m to work out how many 50 g balls you need.
