Araucania Huasco Cotón Glisten – hand-dyed cotton yarn with a subtle sheen

Araucania Huasco Cotón Glisten is a hand-dyed yarn made of 94% cotton and 6% lurex for knitting and crocheting fine items such as socks, tops or light accessories. The lurex gives the yarn a subtle sheen that sets off stitch patterns.

Each ball weighs 100 g and has a length of approx. 400 m (437 yds). This makes it easy to plan the quantity you need from the yardage given in your pattern. Choose your colour from the options.

What the yarn is suited to

The cotton is soft and smooth, and the yarn weight is fingering. According to Araucania, the yarn is intended for socks and lightweight garments. The sheen of the lurex shows to best effect in simple textures, rib or lace patterns. The yarn works well for spring and summer projects; bear in mind that cotton is less elastic than wool.

Needle size and tension

Araucania recommends needles from 2.25 to 3.25 mm. According to the manufacturer, the knitted tension is 27–32 stitches over 10 cm, and the crochet tension is 21 double crochet over 10 cm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. As the yarn is hand-dyed, colour gradients may vary slightly from ball to ball. If you are knitting or crocheting larger items, work alternately from two balls.

Care

According to the manufacturer's care symbols, wash the yarn in the machine at no more than 30 °C.
