Prym twin needle Stretch 4.0/75 – two parallel seams on stretch fabrics

The Prym Stretch twin sewing machine needle (art. no. 154913) sews two parallel rows of stitching in a single pass. You can use it for decorative topstitching, pintucks and seams in one or two colours. The needle spacing is 4.0 mm and the needle size is 75. The medium ballpoint tip is designed for stretchy materials such as T-shirt fabric and jersey, as it slides between the loops instead of cutting them.

According to Prym, the flat shank needle is designed especially for zigzag sewing machines and also fits standard domestic sewing machines. Your machine's instruction manual tells you whether it can be used with a twin needle.

Sewing with a twin needle

A twin needle needs two top threads but only one bobbin thread. This forms a zigzag thread bridge on the wrong side of the fabric, which moves with the fabric when it stretches.

• Place both spools of thread on the machine and thread the top threads separately so that they do not twist.
• Select straight stitch. On zigzag machines, limit the stitch width if your machine offers this.
• Sew the first stitches with the handwheel and check that both needles pass freely through the opening in the needle plate.
• Do not pull stretch fabrics; guide them loosely so that the seam stays even.

Choosing the needle spacing

With 4.0 mm you get two clearly separate lines that stand out well as decorative topstitching. For narrower, finer double seams, the Prym Stretch needle is also available with 2.5 mm spacing. The ballpoint tip is not intended for woven fabrics or firm fabrics; it is designed for jersey and stretch fabrics.
