Gütermann Sliver – sparkling metallic effect thread for embroidery designs and decorative stitches

Gütermann Sliver (series 709786) is a metallic effect thread for embroidery designs, decorative stitches and decorative seams. It is made of fine, flat ribbons of polyamide and polyester and has a smooth, even surface with a strong sparkle. Use it to add highlights, outlines or fills that catch the light.

The reel holds 200 m (220 yds), which is enough for several embroidery designs or runs of decorative stitching. Choose your colour from the options.

Embroidering with Sliver

Flat ribbon threads are more sensitive to tension and friction than ordinary thread. Use a metallic machine embroidery needle in NM 80–90, which is the needle recommended for this thread. Its larger eye protects the ribbon. With Sliver as the top thread and a fine embroidery thread in a matching colour as the bobbin thread, the embroidery stays even.

• Reduce the embroidery speed slightly
• Check the top thread tension on a test piece first
• Do not twist the flat thread, so the surface stays smooth

What it is suitable for

Sliver suits anything that is meant to shine: single accents in embroidery designs, decorative stitches and decorative seams. Because the thread sparkles strongly, it works best used selectively, for example for outlines, stars, lettering or borders, rather than filling an entire design with it.
