Anchor Artiste Metallic – metallic novelty yarn

Anchor Artiste Metallic is a fine novelty yarn made from 80% viscose and 20% metallised polyester. It adds shiny accents to crochet and knitting, for example on accessories, edgings or special-occasion garments. Each ball weighs 25 g and has a length of approx. 100 m; the recommended needle size is 2.5 mm.

What the yarn is suited to

The viscose makes the thread smooth and supple, while the metallised polyester gives the shine. Because the yarn is very thin, it adds hardly any bulk. It is mainly used for crocheted jewellery, edgings, appliqués and special-occasion accessories. On larger pieces it often works best as an accent: individual stripes, borders or a flower on a hat. You can also work it as a carry-along yarn together with another yarn – in that case, adjust the needle size to the main yarn.

Tips for working

• Pull the thread loosely from the ball and let it hang free now and then so that it does not twist.
• Do not work too tightly: smooth novelty yarns are less forgiving of uneven tension than wool.
• Weave in the ends a little longer than usual, as smooth threads slip out more easily.
• A tension swatch is worthwhile if your piece needs to be a specific size.

For jewellery or an edging, one ball is often enough. For garments, the yarn requirements depend on the design and size in your pattern.
