Prym Omnigrid universal ruler 4.5 x 4.5 inch – grid and angle lines for patchwork

The Prym Omnigrid universal ruler (art. no. 611473) measures 4.5 × 4.5 inches and is made for patchwork, dressmaking and graphic work. It is transparent with a yellow/black printed grid and an inch scale. You can read the markings easily on both dark and light fabrics.

The underside has a scratch-resistant laser print which, according to Prym, rules out optical distortion. The thick, hard-wearing material guides rotary cutters and trimming knives safely along the edge. With the eyelet, you can hang the ruler within easy reach at your workspace.

Cutting triangles, diamonds and bias strips

You will need the 30, 45 and 60 degree angle lines when cutting triangles, diamonds or bias strips. Place the angle line you want exactly on a straight fabric edge or on an edge that has already been cut. The grid lines help you read the measurements directly on the fabric. With a ruler of this size, you will mainly be working on smaller pieces such as squares and block parts.

Cutting safely along the edge

Lay the fabric on the cutting mat and the ruler on top. Hold it firmly with your flat hand and press down close to the cutting edge. Guide the rotary cutter or trimming knife along the outer edge of the ruler with even pressure, without moving the ruler. The ruler is made of thick plastic, so the blade is less likely to slip over it.
