BC Garn Allino – lightweight linen and cotton summer yarn

BC Garn Allino is a summer yarn made from 50 % linen and 50 % cotton, for jumpers, tops and accessories in spring and summer. According to the manufacturer, the matt linen fibres and slightly glossy cotton fibres create a subtle marl effect. With 125 m per 50 g, the yarn is light and goes a long way, and the plant fibres feel pleasantly cool against the skin. According to the manufacturer, it is suitable for both adults and children.

The linen comes from Belgium, the cotton from various countries. The yarn is spun and dyed in Italy. According to the manufacturer, the dyes comply with Oeko-Tex standards and contain no animal-derived ingredients, so the yarn is vegan. Choose your colour from the options.

Knitting and quantities

Allino is knitted with needles of 3–3.5 mm. The tension on the ball band is 22 stitches and 30 rows over 10 × 10 cm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. Plant fibres such as linen and cotton are less elastic than wool, so it is worth knitting a tension swatch before you start.

How much yarn do you need?

For a women's jumper in size M, the manufacturer gives approx. 550 g. At 50 g per ball, that is around 11 balls; the actual quantity depends on the design, size and stitch pattern. For tops, scarves or smaller accessories you will need less. It is best to buy the whole quantity in one go from the same dye lot, so that your knitting looks even.

Care

According to the manufacturer, Allino is machine washable at 40 °C. This keeps summer jumpers and tops easy to care for in everyday wear.
