Noro Koma is a single-ply, self-striping yarn made from 45 % wool, 35 % mohair and 20 % silk. You can knit shawls, wraps and lightweight jumpers with it, where the colour gradient makes the pattern. Koma is the Japanese word for spinning top, and as you knit, the colours really do swirl through the fabric as if in a spinning motion. The yarn comes in six colour gradients. Choose your colour from the options.

The fine mohair halo gives the knitted fabric depth and lightness, while the silk adds an elegant surface with a subtle sheen. One ball weighs 150 g and has approx. 405 m. With this length you can plan a shawl from a single ball, and for larger projects it is easy to estimate how many balls you need.

What Koma is suited to

Koma is a lightweight yarn in DK/light weight. It shows its colour gradient to best effect in stocking stitch and in simple patterns such as rib or garter stitch. It works particularly well in shawls, wraps and lightweight jumpers. The calmer the pattern, the more clearly you see the colours flow into one another. The virgin wool gives warmth, while mohair and silk make the fabric soft and light.

Knitting and care

The recommended needle size is 3.75–4.5 mm. For knitting, the tension is given as 21–24 stitches over 10 cm; for crochet, 12 double crochet over 10 cm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure on the ball band is only a guide. The yarn is not machine washable. The manufacturer's care symbols specify:

• do not tumble dry; dry flat in the shade
• iron on a low setting
• dry clean only with petroleum solvent
