Ricorumi Christmas CAL Box 1 – crochet nine Christmas figures

With the Ricorumi Christmas CAL Box 1 from Rico Design, you crochet nine small Christmas figures, including a dog, a reindeer and a piglet. Each figure sits in its own Christmas stocking, as a decoration or a small gift. CAL stands for Crochet Along: the figures were published as a joint crochet project. The patterns are free and can be accessed via a QR code in the box.

The box contains 45 balls of Ricorumi DK: plain and spray colours in cotton, plus lamé with a sparkle. The cotton is saliva-resistant.

Crocheting the figures

Ricorumi figures are amigurumi: you usually crochet the pieces in a spiral of double crochet, stuff them with toy stuffing and sew them together. To stop the stuffing showing through, you crochet more tightly than for clothing. Many people choose the lower end of the recommended hook size for this. A stitch marker at the start of each round helps you keep count. The pattern for each figure is what matters for hook size, stitch count and sequence; the hook sizes given on the ball band are only a guide.

The lamé yarn is much thinner than the cotton (see yarn details) and adds sparkle to individual details. The pattern tells you where it is used; it has its own hook size recommendation.

Start with one figure and work your way through the box. As each figure is finished separately, you can also spread the crocheting over the Advent season.
