Ricorumi DK Starter Set – 20 balls of cotton yarn for amigurumi

The Ricorumi DK Starter Set Limited Edition by Rico Design is a set of 20 balls of cotton yarn in 20 colours, developed according to the manufacturer especially for crocheting amigurumi figures. Each ball weighs 25 g and has a length of 57.5 m. Altogether you have 500 g and around 1,150 m of yarn, enough material to crochet several small figures in different colours without having to buy individual balls separately.

The yarn is 100% cotton in DK weight. Cotton has little elasticity and holds its shape well, so crocheted figures stay firm and the stitches remain clearly defined. The small 25 g balls are handy when you only need a little yarn in one colour for eyes, noses, ears or clothing.

What the set is for

The set suits you if you want to start with amigurumi or are looking for a colourful selection for small projects. With 20 colours you can crochet the body, face and details in different shades. As each ball is only 25 g, it is best to plan your colours beforehand: for larger areas such as the body of a figure, a single ball is soon used up.

Crocheting and care

Amigurumi is usually crocheted tightly so that the stuffing does not show through. For this, choose a hook towards the lower end of the recommended range of 3–4 mm. What matters is the tension given in your pattern; the figure of 22 stitches and 26 rows over 10 × 10 cm is only a guide. The care instructions are important if the figures are to be washed later: the manufacturer recommends a 30 °C delicate/wool wash, do not bleach, do not tumble dry and do not iron.
