With the latex duck mould you can cast small duck figures in soap, plaster or concrete, for example as decoration for the bathroom and windowsill or as a small gift. The mould is closed all round, so you get a fully three-dimensional figure.

Latex is soft and stretchy, so you simply peel the mould off the figure once it has set. This means you can use it several times.

Casting the duck

To fill the mould, stand it with the opening facing upwards in a cup, a glass or in sand. This stops it tipping over and losing its shape under the weight of the compound. Mix plaster or concrete according to the instructions on the pack, or melt the soap casting compound following the manufacturer's instructions. Pour the compound in slowly and tap the mould lightly so that air bubbles rise to the top. Leave the figure to set or cool completely; how long this takes depends on the casting compound. Finally, carefully roll the latex mould off the figure.

The most common mistake is removing the figure from the mould too early. Fine areas such as the beak then break off easily.
