Collall Decoupage Glue & Varnish – Napkin Glue, Puzzle Glue and Protective Varnish
Collall Decoupage Glue & Varnish (Serviettenkleber & Lack) is a thin, white, water-based lacquer glue. You can use it to stick down napkins and tissue paper, fix jigsaw puzzles or protect drawings with a coat of varnish. The glue dries transparent and glossy and suits paper, card, wood, textile and stone.
It is based on a polyvinyl acetate dispersion in water. The smell is faint, and fresh glue residue can be removed with water. This makes it easy to keep brushes and your work surface clean.
Working with the lacquer glue
For decoupage with paper napkins, separate the printed top layer, lay it on a clean, dry surface and brush the lacquer glue over it with a soft brush, working from the centre outwards. This smooths the creases out of the napkin. Then leave everything to dry. Very thin paper may wrinkle briefly and will flatten again as it dries. If you want more gloss or protection, apply a second thin coat once the first has dried.
Fixing puzzles and protecting drawings
For a finished jigsaw puzzle, brush a thin layer of the lacquer glue over the surface so the pieces hold together, and leave it to dry. You can also coat drawings made with wax crayon, charcoal or poster paint with the varnish. Apply it with light strokes and without pressure so that charcoal or crayon does not smudge. Wipe away fresh drips straight away with water; dried residue is not as easy to remove.
