Working with tube paint

Squeeze the amount of paint you need onto a palette and dilute it with water. The more water you add, the more transparent the application; with little water, the colour stays strong. You can reactivate leftovers on the palette with water later and keep using them. Start with a small amount of paint: watercolour from the tube quickly produces a very rich shade that is hard to lighten again on the paper.

Works with pans and sets

Schmincke uses the same formulation for pan and tube colours. This means you can add the tube to an existing HORADAM box with pans without any change in how the paint behaves. The tube is particularly useful when you mix colours in larger quantities, for example for large areas and washes.
