ARCHES Watercolour Pad Grain Fin, 300 gsm, 12 Sheets

ARCHES Grain Fin Watercolour Pad – Cotton Paper with a Fine Grain

The ARCHES watercolour pad with a Grain Fin surface is a watercolour paper pad of 12 sheets, 300 g/m² and 100% cotton. Grain Fin corresponds to a cold pressed surface and has a fine grain. It suits details, clean washes and gradients. Choose your size from the options.

According to the manufacturer, the paper is gelatine-sized right through to the core. It absorbs plenty of water and distorts very little. The pad is glued on the short side. It is suitable for watercolour and all wet techniques such as ink, gouache and acrylic.

Working with the pad

As the pad is glued on one side only, the sheet is not held down on all sides while you paint. For wet washes and large areas, detach the sheet at the glued edge and tape it down all round onto a board with gummed paper tape. Leave the work to dry completely before you remove the tape. Otherwise, with very wet washes, a sheet can ripple slightly despite its 300 g/m².

Choosing the right surface

Grain Fin is the fine grain in the ARCHES Aquarelle range. It shows fine lines and details cleanly and also holds up to bold brushstrokes. If you want a much coarser texture, ARCHES offers the same range with a rougher surface (Rough).
