Kreul Javana cold wax – resist patterns and outlines on silk
Kreul Javana cold wax is a ready-to-use, spreadable wax for silk painting. You use it to separate areas of colour and to create outlines and patterns on scarves, cloths and other fabrics. The areas painted with wax are "reserved": they do not take up the silk paint and stay white. You do not need to heat the wax; you can work straight from the 250 ml tin.
The cold wax is suitable for silk and light-coloured textiles made of cotton, viscose, linen or mixed fabrics with no more than 20 % synthetic fibre. It is intended as a painting aid for Kreul Javana silk paints.
Working with the cold wax
Wash the fabric before applying the wax and let it dry. Then apply the cold wax wherever the colour should not go: with a brush for lines and outlines, with a paint roller or sponge for areas and textures. Leave the wax to dry for approx. 30–60 minutes. Then paint over the pattern with Kreul Javana silk paints. The waxed areas stay white.
- Wash the fabric and let it dry
- Apply the cold wax and leave to dry for approx. 30–60 minutes
- Paint with silk paint and let the paint dry
- Iron on the cotton setting: the wax is ironed out and the silk paint is fixed at the same time
Second layer of colour and ironing
You can also apply the cold wax to areas that have already been painted with silk paint. If you paint a second layer of colour over it, the first colour becomes visible again at the waxed areas after ironing. This creates patterns with several layers of colour. When ironing, place paper between the iron and the fabric. The paper absorbs the melted wax and protects the iron.
