120 mm Lino Roller – for Even Inking in Lino Printing
The lino roller, Ø 30 mm and 120 mm wide, applies lino printing ink evenly to lino blocks. The roller covering is 4 mm thick and sits on a light, dimensionally stable plastic core. With a width of 120 mm, you can ink printing blocks up to about 12 cm wide in a single pass. For larger blocks, roll in several passes side by side.
The nickel-plated steel wire frame has rests, so the roller does not lie with its inked side on the table when you put it down. The roller can be taken apart, which makes it easier to clean. You can use it in art lessons and in the hobby workshop.
Inking the lino block
Put a little lino printing ink on a smooth surface and roll it out with the roller in several directions until an even, slightly velvety film of ink covers the roller. Then roll over the lino block in steady passes and repeat if needed. The most common mistake is too much ink: it collects in the cut-out recesses and the print becomes smudged. It is better to ink thinly several times than thickly once.
Cleaning and putting down
Clean the roller straight after printing, while the ink is still fresh. Take it out of the frame, which makes it easier to clean the covering and the axle. Remove the ink with water or the matching cleaner, depending on whether you used water-based or oil-based lino printing ink. When putting the roller down, use the rests so that the covering does not lie on the surface and become misshapen.
