Botz 9349 Maisgelb liquid glaze – glossy, bright yellow for earthenware

Botz liquid glaze 9349 Maisgelb is a glossy, opaque glaze in a bright yellow. You brush it onto bisque-fired ceramics and fire it in the range of 1020–1060 °C. It is stable within the firing range and, according to Botz, can be fired up to 1100 °C. It is also suitable for raku.

Maisgelb combines well with other Botz colours, such as 9501 Karneval. As the glaze is opaque, the colour of the clay underneath does not show through the yellow. However, how strong the yellow looks depends on the thickness of the application and on the firing.

Application

The ceramics must be bisque-fired beforehand, at 950 °C at least. Stir the glaze thoroughly, as the colour pigments settle in the container. If necessary, thin it with a little water. Brush it on evenly and let it dry well. If the surface is not yet opaque, apply another coat. Leave the foot ring free and protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash so that the piece does not stick during firing.

Firing and choosing

Maisgelb is an earthenware glaze with a firing range of 1020–1060 °C. If you fire below this, the surface may be less glossy. You should not go higher than 1100 °C. A test tile on your own clay shows you beforehand how the yellow will look for you.
