Botz 9565 Kristalltürkis Liquid Glaze – Satin Blue-Green for Earthenware
Botz liquid glaze 9565 Kristalltürkis is a ready-to-use earthenware glaze in a vivid, semi-transparent blue-green with a satin finish. According to Botz, it produces exceptional effects on dark clays. As it is semi-transparent, the colour of your clay body also affects how the turquoise looks.
The glaze is suitable for raku. Raku firing produces coppery effects. In the normal firing range of 1020–1060 °C it is stable, but it runs heavily. Allow for this from the start when applying it and when loading the kiln.
Application and firing
Proceed step by step:
- Stir the glaze well and thin it with a little water if needed
- Apply with a brush to bisque-fired ceramics (bisque firing at least 950 °C)
- Leave to dry thoroughly and apply another coat if needed
- Fire within the firing range of 1020–1060 °C
Preventing runs
Kristalltürkis runs heavily. Apply the glaze more thinly on the lower third of the piece and leave the foot unglazed, otherwise the piece will stick to the kiln shelf. You can also protect the shelf with kiln wash. A test tile on your own clay shows you beforehand how much glaze the piece can take and how the turquoise looks on your clay body. The same applies to raku firing: apply only a little glaze and check the result on a test tile first.
