Botz Liquid Glaze 9377 Fichtengrün – opaque, glossy mid green

Botz liquid glaze 9377 Fichtengrün is a ready-to-use glaze for bisque-fired ceramics. It gives an opaque, glossy mid green. The glaze is suitable for earthenware in the 1020–1100 °C range and can be applied with a brush.

Fichtengrün melts very well and does not tend to run, even at 1100 °C. This helps with pieces that have a foot, as the base is less likely to stick to the kiln shelf. The glaze has good coverage and gives good results on coloured clays too. Raku firing is also possible.

Applying the glaze

The glaze is ready to use, but you can adjust it if needed. It is important that your piece has previously been bisque-fired at 950 °C or above.

• Stir the glaze well before use and thin with a little water if needed
• Apply evenly to the bisque-fired ceramic with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly
• If needed, apply another coat and leave to dry again

Firing and result

Fichtengrün is stable in the firing range of 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C. This makes it suitable for earthenware and gives you some leeway with the firing temperature. It is still worth making a test tile from your own clay: the glaze works well on coloured clays, but the colour can differ slightly depending on the clay body. It is best to leave the foot of the piece unglazed and to protect the kiln shelf with kiln wash.
