Botz PRO 9316 Morganit – soft pink liquid glaze for 1020–1280 °C

Botz PRO 9316 Morganit is a ready-to-use liquid glaze in a soft, pale pink for earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. The finish is glossy and semi-transparent. The firing range runs from 1020 to 1280 °C, so depending on your clay you can use the glaze in the earthenware range or at high-fire temperatures. It is also suitable for raku and, according to Botz, combines well with Botz Unidekor.

The firing temperature determines the look: at approx. 1050 °C the glaze turns a strong colour and is almost opaque. At approx. 1150 °C, for example on early-vitrifying clays, the colour is retained but the surface becomes more semi-transparent. At approx. 1250 °C the result is a glassy, semi-transparent surface, also on porcelain. The glaze is made in Germany and comes in an 800 ml tin.

Application

Stir the glaze thoroughly before use. If it is too thick, add a little water. Apply 2–3 coats and let each coat become touch-dry. The glaze must be completely dry before firing. In the earthenware range from 1020 °C, Botz recommends 2–3 coats; at approx. 1150 °C, 2 are enough. As the glaze runs when applied thickly, apply it more thinly on the lower third of the piece and leave the foot unglazed.

Tableware

Botz recommends the PRO glazes for tableware. For this, the clay must be vitrified. Many earthenware clays are not yet vitrified, and according to Botz such ceramics should not be used for liquids over long periods. Anyone selling tableware is responsible for its suitability for food contact. The glaze is also available in a 200 ml tin, in the same colour.
