Botz Liquid Glaze 9380 Marinablau – Glossy Dark Blue for Earthenware

Botz liquid glaze 9380 Marinablau is a glossy, slightly clear glaze in a deep dark blue for bisque-fired ceramics. It belongs to the Botz earthenware glazes for a firing range of around 1020–1060 °C and can be fired up to 1100 °C.

The glaze melts out very well and, according to Botz, does not tend to run even at 1100 °C. This helps with pieces that have grooves or relief, where glaze would otherwise collect in the recesses. The glaze is also suitable for raku.

Application

Marinablau is applied to bisque-fired ceramics; the bisque firing should have been carried out at a minimum of 950 °C. Method:

• Stir the glaze well and thin with a little water if needed
• Apply evenly to the bisque-fired ceramics with a brush
• Leave to dry thoroughly and apply a further coat if needed
• Keep the base free of glaze before firing and fire within the recommended firing range

Colour effect and clay

Because the glaze is slightly transparent, your clay affects the result: on dark clays the Marinablau looks somewhat darker. A test tile made from your own clay will show you beforehand how the blue turns out for you.
