Botz PRO 9311 Topasblau – blue liquid glaze for earthenware and stoneware
Botz PRO 9311 Topasblau is a blue brush-on liquid glaze for earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. It can be used across a wide firing range of 1020 to 1280 °C, so you do not have to commit to one type of clay or a single kiln range. The surface is glossy and semi-transparent.
In the earthenware range from 1020 °C, the glaze turns colourful and almost opaque. At higher temperatures it becomes more glassy and more translucent. The tub contains 200 ml, which is enough for trying it out on a few pieces. Botz PRO can be combined with BOTZ Unidekor, for example for decoration on top of the glaze. Made in Germany.
Choosing the firing temperature
The result depends on how hot you fire. The temperature you choose controls how opaque or translucent the colour becomes.
- From 1020 °C (earthenware): The colour becomes strong and almost opaque. Apply the glaze in 2 to 3 coats.
- Around 1150 °C (early-vitrifying clays): The colour is retained and the surface becomes more semi-transparent. 2 coats are enough here.
- High firing up to 1280 °C (stoneware): The surface becomes glassy and semi-transparent, and the shades look pastel and intense. Good results are also possible on porcelain at 1250 °C.
Application and avoiding runs
Stir the glaze well before use and brush it evenly onto the bisque-fired piece with a soft brush. Let each coat dry slightly before applying the next. Botz PRO tends to run when applied thickly. It is therefore better to apply one more thin coat than a single thick coat. Wipe the foot ring clean so that the piece does not stick to the kiln shelf. Because the glaze is semi-transparent, the colour of your clay affects the result. A test piece will show you beforehand how Topasblau looks on your clay.
