Botz 9867 Patina stoneware glaze – matt liquid glaze in pale green

Botz 9867 Patina is a matt liquid stoneware glaze in a pale green reminiscent of copper patina. You apply it with a brush and fire it in the stoneware range from 1220 to 1280 °C. The tin holds 800 ml, so it also covers larger pieces or several firings.

Where the glaze is applied thinly, light brown effects appear. At 1220 °C the green looks lighter with a slightly minty tone, while at 1280 °C it is a stronger green and more satin-like. Fired within the firing range, the stoneware becomes vitrified and frost-proof, so it no longer absorbs water.

Applying the glaze

Stir the glaze thoroughly before applying, as pigments and glaze components settle in the tin. Then brush on 2 to 3 coats, preferably 3, and let each coat dry well. The glaze is opaque and gives an even matt surface.

• Firing range 1220–1280 °C
• Recommended: 1250 °C with a 30-minute hold

Choosing the firing temperature

The temperature determines the colour effect. At 1220 °C you get a light, slightly minty green. At 1280 °C the green becomes stronger and the surface more satin-like. At 1250 °C you are in the middle of the firing range. A test piece made from your own clay shows you beforehand how Patina looks on your clay body and where the light brown effects appear.
