Botz Unidekor 4014 Pflaumenblau – opaque decorating colour for underglaze, porcelain and majolica
Botz Unidekor 4014 Pflaumenblau is a liquid, opaque universal decorating colour for ceramics and porcelain in a violet-blue shade. You can use it for underglaze and onglaze techniques, porcelain painting, majolica and relief work. The finish is glossy and the firing range is 1000–1250 °C. According to Botz, the colour is exempt from hazard labelling: lead-free and free from hazardous substances in concentrations requiring labelling.
All Botz Unidekor colours can be mixed with one another. For pastel shades, mix Pflaumenblau with 4009 Weiß. Undiluted, the colour is also suitable for airbrushing.
Working with Unidekor
Apply the colour to the ceramic and leave it to dry completely. If you want to glaze over it, brush a transparent glaze over it afterwards with a soft brush. The right technique depends on the material:
- Underglaze: paint on bisque-fired ceramic, coat thinly with transparent glaze and fire at 1050 °C
- Porcelain: do not apply the colour too thinly and fire at 1200 °C or above, or coat with transparent glaze and fire at approx. 1080 °C
- Stoneware: at firings above 1220 °C, Unidekor becomes very intense
Colour before and after firing
Before firing, Unidekor looks matt and less vivid. The shade only shows its full intensity after firing, so do not rely on the colour you see in the unfired state. For application on dry glaze (in-glaze technique), Botz names suitable glazes such as 9108, 9106 and 9107; glaze 9102 is not suitable for this. A test piece on your own clay body shows you in advance how Pflaumenblau turns out in your firing.
